Story of Jen

nce upon a time, there was a little girl named Jen who loved books, music, animals, and typewriters. In fact, she loved words so much that she went to college at the University of Georgia to study them. Although she elected not to go to any football games, she did acquire her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in speech and language therapy. And like Ferdinand the little bull, she was very happy.

Jen wanted to be a mom, and she was thrilled to have Carter in 2000, Elliott in 2002, and Mimi in 2004. Those were busy and fulfilling days and years, and Jen made a rule to always stop what she was doing or cleaning in order to read a book whenever one or two or three of her kids asked. Although there were many messes, there were even more stories, and her three little people who loved books are now grown people who love books. And this makes Jen very grateful.

In 1999, Jen started serving children in her private practice. She loved the flexibility, creativity, and opportunity to help not just the children, but the families who loved them best. As her kids grew older and began attending school, Jen saw more and more clients, creating the coziest and most colorful space in her home, filled with books, old-school toys (no screens or batteries ever), and two fantastic puppers, Story and Ivy.

Jen loves her kids, her rockstar husband Britt, her friends, her family, and all dogs all the time everywhere. She LOVES her work, and has added sleep-consulting to her toolkit. She adores helping families of all shapes and sizes get the sleep they deserve to make life so much better.

While she's not working, Jen can be found on her yoga mat, erasing her logic puzzle mistakes, listening to audiobooks, walking her pups while disdaining her weighted vest, texting her kids, or some combination of these activities. Jen's favorite castle is in Walt Disney World, where she escapes every year or two with whomever will join her, and where she tours the parks happily ever after.

Jen also loves supporting adult learners through group education, including seminars and workshops. She uses humor, warmth, and three decades of experience to make complex concepts easily accessible and memorable for everyone!

Topics include (but are not limited to): pediatric communication (both for parents and for educators), pediatric sleep, playing to learn and learning to play, digital detox for children, pre-literacy and literacy strategies to grow avid readers and critical thinkers, and social-emotional development and self-regulation

I tell every family that they are always my client, whether or not they’re paying for services. Families can always reach out to me years later and I will remember their child and help them however I can. My relationships with families and children set me apart. I consider my intimate role to be a privilege I’m grateful to have.
